Mission to Mars
for NASA through Vista Arts
This was an unusual one. At the Space Center Houston, they wanted a show for visitors in which Mission Briefing Officers (played by actors) would host multimedia presentations about a future manned mission to the red planet. These shows would fill in during periods when NASA had no active robotic missions, and called for some audience participation.
To give these actors something to work from, I wrote a series of scripts describing the engineering of a live Mars mission, what living conditions would be like both on the way to the red planet and on its surface, and who would qualify to go. The actors used their scripts until they were able to improvise their shows.
